A few days ago I had a good experience with a little boy.
He is probably an adolescent. He came to me and asked me for money in sign language then I realised he was deaf-mute and I gave him the coins in my pocket since I did not take my purse. A few seconds later I called him back and signaled him to come for more money that I had in my back pocket. When I gave him the money, he gave me back the coins I had given him earlier. I was so surprised and I told him to keep both the coins and note. He was so excited. Unfortunately I could not communicate with him because I do not understand sign language and he cannot hear words.
What touched me the most about this little boy was just how grateful he was and his smile was so big that he was smiling while going and kept turning back to look at me. The money I gave him was not a lot but he was just content with it. If I had taken a lot of money that day, I would have given everything to him because of what he did. It is very rare to give money or anything to anyone that they will show that much gratitude. I have been doing social work for several years and no one has ever given me anything back because they thought I had already given them enough. Neither my family nor friends have done that either. Most people want more.
Honestly, if someone gave me money and then a few seconds later gave me more money, I will not return the money given me previously because I would think he/she was just topping it. He was not selfish. This little boy’s attitude has changed me. I will be more conscious about the things people do for me now and be more appreciative.
I will go look for him. Fortunately Takoradi is not a big city so it might be easier to find him. Wherever he is, God protect him and I hope we meet soon.
There is still hope in this world. People like this little boy motivates us to continue to help others.
Later that evening, someone gave me a lot of money when I did not even ask for it. I do believe that it was because of what I did for the little boy. When you give, you receive.
Interesting post. Giving is a blessing indeed.
